Pandemic Electronic Benefit Transfer Letter

June 1, 2020

Dear Gallatin County Families,

COVID-19 has affected our lives in multiple ways and for many families, the pandemic has negatively impacted their finances.  Kentucky was recently approved for a program designed to provide financial resources for families who lost access to free or reduced- price school meals due to COVID-19.  We want to ensure that our families are aware of this opportunity and that you have information about how to qualify for this valuable benefit.  Participation in the district’s NTI meal service program, summer feeding program or Meals to Go for COVID-19 does not affect your eligibility for this program.

What is the program?

The Pandemic Electronic Benefit Transfer (P-EBT) program provides households with an EBT card with funds (up to $313.50 per student) to spend on food for students at home.

Who is eligible and what do we need to do?

  • Currently enrolled students who are receiving SNAP benefits on an active EBT card will automatically receive additional funds for P-EBT added on to their existing card beginning this week. Currently enrolled students who are receiving Medicaid or KTAP benefits based on income levels below the NSLP income guidelines, or who are in Foster Care, will automatically receive a P-EBT card in the mail.  These students do not need to do anything further to receive benefits.

  • All students attending GALLATIN COUNTY SCHOOLS which is a Community  Eligibility Provision (CEP) district, in, are eligible.  These students qualify for benefits, but must opt-in to receive the benefit  by applying at  https://benefind.ky.gov/.

When do I need to apply?

The application period begins on June 1, 2020 and closes on June 30, 2020.

What information do I need?

In order to apply, you must enter the student’s Statewide Student ID (SSID.)   Please find instructions on how to access this number below.

Who do I contact for help?

If you have difficulty finding your student’s SSID, please contact Dana Wesley at dana.wesley@gallatin.kyschools.us or at 859-250-4841. You can also call Central Office at 859-567-1820 or your child’s school.

Gallatin County Official Press Release Regarding School Closure due to COVID-19

Dear Parents, Guardians and Community Members,

Yesterday Governor Andy Beshear conducted a conference call with all superintendents in Kentucky as well as the Interim Commissioner of Education, the Commissioner of Public Health and several representatives from the Kentucky Department of Education. The Governor has also held conference calls with all Kentucky Judge Executives.

Today, Gallatin County administrators and the school board chairman held a joint meeting with the Gallatin County Judge Executive, Emergency Management Director, the school nurse, and representatives from Gallatin County Fiscal Court and Three Rivers Health Department. Amid the ongoing concern about COVID-19, we understand our shared responsibility to be proactive to ensure the safety and well-being of our students, staff, parents, and all Gallatin County citizens.

Based on the current information about COVID-19, Gallatin County Schools will be implementing our NTI (Non-Traditional Instruction) Plan in accordance with KRS 158.070(9). Beginning Monday, March 16th, all instruction will be delivered by means of each school’s NTI assignments. NTI work and expectations were sent home with students today. Staff members will report to work as normal and will be available to assist students via email, phone, text, etc… All schools have prepared quality work that will ensure instruction will continue during the unprecedented situation. The intent is for students to return to the regular classroom on April 13th.

During this time, all buildings, equipment, furniture and buses will be disinfected and sanitized with cleaning chemicals recommended by the CDC.

The cafeterias will be preparing food for distribution. Food will be available for pick up along with the buses delivering food to predetermined sites throughout the county. Our transportation and food service departments are coordinating these sites; they will be announced by the end of this week.

All athletic events, including practices, and field trips are cancelled during this closure.

There is no confirmed case of COVID-19 currently in Gallatin County. The decision to close our buildings is an effort to help mitigate the spread of this virus. Student and staff safety is our first priority and we believe this closure is necessary.

For the most up to date information, on the COVID-19 crisis in Kentucky, please refer to www.kycovid19.ky.gov. You can also call the hotline at 1-800-722-5725.

Thank you,

Larry B. Hammond
